Lowering the cost of OTP hard tokens

Lowering the cost of OTP Tokens

Traditionally, OTP technology is implemented in physical hardware tokens, like the well-known RSA SecurID tokens. Such hard tokens can be expensive to acquire and even more expensive to maintain. And the support and administrative burdens associated with granting access to users that have a lost or inoperable device is problematic and expensive.

There are now lower cost OTP alternatives to expensive hard tokens. IdMLogic’s SOA² (Service Oriented Authentication Architecture) suports industry standard OATH tokens typically costing as little as $5 for hard tokens with a 7 year lifespan. In addition, support for alternative OTP solutions like software based OTP that runs on mobile devices and as desktop gadgets, generic USB key device support for portable credentials, and Grid and eGrid technology, provide the added benefit of facilitating electronic distribution of credentials.

The lower acquisition cost, combined with complete user self service enrollment and recovery, can lower the overall cost of ownership by as much as 80% of current hard token solutions. And by combining multiple authentication methods on a single platform, you are free to choose the right credential for any particular user or group of users.

IdMlogic’s Service Oriented Authentication Architecture - SOA² can even lower or completely eliminate helpdesk calls related to forgotten or expired passwords, providing even greater operational benefits and savings.
